Thanks Foodnight! cu next time!
What an amazing day we had. The line didn’t seem to vanish until we’d sold out.
Thanks to the organisation and visitors of Food Night ! We had a great day, loved the hard work and many, many, many positive feed back.

FoodNight – 11 September 2011 Amsterdam
Hebben jullie ons gemist? Inmiddels voor de 2e maal nemen wij deel aan dit unieke streetfood event. Wij staan er met Koreaanse BBQ taco’s, gegrilde kalbi, krokante tofu salade en onze spicy kimchi! Koreaans eten zoals wij het lekker vinden en hopelijk jullie ook!

Korean Taco Party bij onthulling Straat-o-foon
De Straat-o-foon: geluidshoorns met luisterportretten uit Amsterdam Oost
Aan bankjes in de Javastraat en op het Javaplein zijn deze zomer grote roestvrijstalen geluidshoorns bevestigd. Wie daar gaat zitten, wordt een paar minuten een andere wereld ingezogen.
Een verlegen meisjesstem blijkt van een bokskampioene, die vertelt over haar eerste knock out… Een doorleefde mannenstem vertelt dat hij zijn laatste geld uitgeeft aan voer voor vogels waaraan iets mankeert, net als bij hemzelf… Een beschaafde vrouwenstem vertelt dat zij een lift kreeg van een bouwvakker in wie zij de Messias herkende…
Wie meer verhalen wil horen, loopt door naar het volgende bankje óf komt een week later terug. In totaal laten vier Straat-o-foons een half jaar lang elke week een ander verhaal horen. De verhalen zijn opgenomen in Amsterdam Oost en verschijnen wekelijks op Parool.nl. Eén verhaal is bijgevoegd.
De Straat-o-foon is een initiatief van radiodocumentairemakers Katinka Baehr en Maartje Duin (o.a. VPRO 1Minuut, Plots).
21 mei om 16:00 zal Radio 3-dj en Amsterdam-Oost bewoner Eric Corton bij het bankje op het Javaplein (voor het terras van het Badhuis) de eerste Straat-o-foon onthullen.
1st year anniversary event – Cooking Studio Toko Dun Young
Sunday, February 20 we were invited by chef Fong of cooking studio “Flavours of the Far East” to serve Korean shortrib tacos and kimchi quesadillas. One year ago Toko Dun Young started cooking workshops to extend their service to customers. The cooking studio, which is specialized in Asian workshops, is located at the 3rd floor of Toko Dun Young in Amsterdam. Also invited to cook was Unobento serving delicious Japanese rice rolls and mini pancakes. That day was also special to us, since it was our first taco event of this year.

FESTIVAL The Wild Wild East – Focus Zuid-Korea (2-6 feb. 2011)

Van 2 t/m 6 februari 2011 organiseert het Utrechtse RASA de eerste editie van The Wild Wild East, een splinternieuw festival voor de podiumkunsten uit Centraal-Azië, Zuidoost-Azië en het Verre Oosten, met in 2011 een focus op Zuid-Korea. De naam van dit festival refereert niet alleen aan de traditionele ‘wilde’ ruiters van de uitgestrekte Aziatische steppen, maar ook aan de ‘wilde’ energie van de moderne miljoenensteden op het Aziatisch continent. RASA ziet deze dualiteit tussen oud en nieuw als een drijvende kracht binnen de hedendaagse podiumkunsten en daarmee in de samenleving als geheel. De naam van het festival impliceert overigens niet dat het programma geen ruimte biedt aan verstilling en contemplatie (waarmee het Oosten natuurlijk ook wordt geassocieerd). Niets kan immers bestaan zonder zijn tegenstelling…
en natuurlijk is er ook aandacht voor Koreaans eten ……..
Koreaanse cuisine
Nog maar kort geleden werd er in de krant over een dreigende Koreaanse crisis geschreven. Het had niks met politiek te maken maar alles met Chinese kool. De oogst zou mislukken en dit voorspelde grote gevolgen voor het gerecht Kimchi, dat massaal in Korea wordt gegeten. Kimchi, met als hoofdbestanddeel gefermenteerde en ingelegde kool met rode pepers, wordt in alle restaurants geserveerd, van pizzatenten tot steakrestaurants.
Een man die tien kroppen van een akker had gestolen werd gearresteerd. „Een begrijpelijke actie”, zegt een zakenman. „Ik moet elke maaltijd kimchi eten. Anders is mijn dag niet goed.” (NRC Handelsblad, 5 oktober 2010)
Een introductie in de Koreaanse keuken, de eetgewoontes en gebruiken zal u de actie van de man en de reactie van de zakenman misschien beter doen begrijpen. Saskia Leenders vertelt tijdens een Koreaanse maaltijd.

Launch party July 3 2010: Café Medina, Amsterdam

The location of our launch party is Café Medina (Amsterdam-Oost). Café Medina has been well-known for the tv show “S1ngle” (with Katja Schuurman, Bracha van Doesburg, Eva van der Gucht). This time we count on great Summer weather (!). In front of the café is a terrace where you can enjoy outside with a cool drink and most important our Korean Tacos ^ ^. For the soccer fans, there is a big cinema screen inside. For people with children is a play-ground on the opposite side of the street.
Update: There will be no entrance fee at the door. People can just choose how many tacos they want to eat or when they’ll come to the party or how long they wanna stay without having the burden of paying an all-in small fortune.Therefore the tacos and drinks will be sold separately. The price of a Korean taco will be EUR 3,50 per taco. Drinks can be ordered inside cafe Medina*.

We want to make sure that everyone who signs up will enjoy a Korean Taco! Beside the Korean BBQ Taco, we will introduce 1 or 2 new versions. Among of them will be a Korean Tofu Taco!
